Course Description:
The story found in the book of Jonah is found in most Bible storybooks and is frequently included in Sunday school curriculum. Anyone who has had long connection with the church and the Bible will be familiar with this story about a series of events in the life of one of the prophets of Israel. But familiarity can breed cultural adaptation—we have a tendency to subtly reshape the story over and over to our own vantage point.

In this study, we will turn careful attention on re-reading the book of Jonah, hoping to remove whatever blinders we may have accumulated. We will work through the text line by line to seek a fresh understanding based on what is in the text, as well as the cultural and historical situation behind the text. The result will be a renewed appreciation of the message that this important little book had in its context and continues to have for us today.
